University Survey of Graduates from Masters and Doctorate Programs

In 2006, the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education and the Universities Presidents' Council (TUPC) collaborated to survey graduates of masters and doctorate programs in order to measure graduate outcomes and provide some feedback on the links between graduate education and the labour market.

Report of Findings

University Baccalaureate Graduates Survey (UBGS)

The UBGS has been designed to gather information on baccalaureate graduates' education satisfaction levels, education financing and student debt as well as further education and employment outcomes. The project has adopted a model of interviewing graduates both two and five years after graduation:

• to meet the demand for university accountability at the system level in British Columbia;
• to gather timely and relevant data for use in program evaluation and planning processes; and
• to ensure that new, continuing, and prospective students are provided with information they can use to help them make informed decisions about their personal and economic futures.

The above goals are met through timely data collection, data management, and outcomes reporting.

Reports are in Portable Document Format (Adobe Acrobat). Adobe offers free software for viewing PDF files for Macintosh, Windows, UNIX and OS/2.

The reports in this area present broad, analytical overviews of survey results, while the associated highlights brochures (beginning in the 1998 survey year) present the key findings.

BC Early Leavers Survey Project
In 2000 the USO Project conducted a survey of university students who left their studies prior to earning their degree. The survey provides a detailed, quantitative understanding of university early leaver activities within the British Columbia context.
